Fashioning a SCAP Collaboration + Kevin Curry’s “Tripping Over the Same Stone” Exhibition

Small Craft Advisory Press recently welcomed Lee Emma Running, Professor and Chair of the Studio Art Department at Grinnell College, for edition work on Fashioning, her second book collaboration with Denise Bookwalter. The artist book continues exploration of their intimate relationship with clothing and offers a tactile experience by utilizing paper and leather to fashion a wearable object. Rubbings taken from personally significant textiles of the artists’ wardrobes reveal the garment’s embellishment, internal structure and texture. Each of the rubbings were transferred to letterpress printing plates, printed in white, resist dyed, and waxed to create a book structure that becomes a book the reader wears. We look forward to the upcoming release of Fashioning this summer.

Kevin Curry’s exhibit, Tripping Over the Same Stone, opens Thursday, June 6 with an artist talk at 5:30 pm at the Thomasville Center for the Arts. The work offers an exploration centered on the mobility and authorship of memories, language and objects – a dialogue reflective of the intersection and location of place in our lives. Kevin employs sculpture, photography, traditional media and digital fabrication technologies in investigating how we navigate through and within the geography of experiences. Curry’s Big Baby sculpture will also be on display in Thomasville as a work in progress!
